It's rare for me to design winter sets; in fact, I've never done it before. Karen, my friend, was pushing me to design leg warmers, which I was really reluctant to do, as I had never made or designed them before. The fear of sizing is my personal roadblock.
In the end, I completed my first-ever winter crochet set of patterns, tied together in design.
Winter Crochet Set

In my world, people love to bitch about everything under the sun and for a designer to make something and have so much yarn leftover from the ball is apparently a big to-do! I know better, as one of our stitch-alongs landed in this category, and people were pissed about it. When I say people, I mean probably just a handful, but of course, they are the loudest about their discontent and overshadow others' positivity.
I know from just observing people, what fits me, won't fit everyone else, so I had to be very careful about the leg warmers so they can be easily adjusted for the circumference of a calf, including height of people, the sample ended up as a stitch sampler where every section can be changed in height to match the needs of the person.
Leg Warmers
One obstacle is ensuring they don't slip. A lot of leg warmers have tie strings, which can be cumbersome, but also really cute. I wanted to ensure I was using the right stitching to wrap the legs properly.
For speed, I used many half-double crochet stitches, except for the trinity stitch. Trying not to be biased, I would actually wear these for the texture and visual interest they offer.
Stitches Used In These Examples
Rib Stitch
Instead of double crochet, I used half double crochet to keep the stitches from being so open.
Trinity Stitch
The trinity stitch in the leg warmers look different as the example below is going back and forth on the rows. In the rounds, it looks like the leg warmer example.
Camel Stitch
The camel stitch is half double crochet on the back bar. This type of stitch can only be done in the rounds.
The ending of the leg warmers goes back to the rib stitch.
Tutorial
Crochet Infinity Cowl Stitch Sampler
With the leg warmers leaving practically a full ball left over, to avoid people complaining, I love to make infinity cowls. They are fast to make, and I examined the stitches used in the leg warmers.
The cowl uses only the trinity stitch and camel stitch. I didn't want the cowl so big that it was unusuable. I had more yarn left over and didn't want to waste anything.
Crochet Headband
With the remaining ball, I made a quick crochet headband, using the camel stitch from the stitch sampler. Together, tying in the cowl and leg warmers. Fast to make and finishes off the rest of the yarn with very little waste.
Mission was accomplished.
