Mikey, not being a clothing designer, used an existing pair of shorts to get an idea of his approach. The document covers his thought processes and a rough overview of how he adjusted his sizing. 
 
Mikey is a size large men's shorts. If you have the desire, you can most likely use the same approach and free-form the crochet granny shorts like he did.
