The crochet modern granny stitch has been updated with a change in the connection of the end of the rounds to prevent ruining the colouring carrying over.
Since 2017, yarn colouring has evolved to be more transitional, with attention to the subtle nature of colouring. Red Heart Super Saver Bitty Stripes, in the colour Rainbow Mist, showcases this stitch well.
TIPS
The change is to start the round at a different position and finish the rounds with a (Ch 1 and half double crochet join) to the top of the first stitch. The Ch 1 + hdc is the equivalent of a ch-3 sp. The half-double crochet leaves the crocheter in the correct position to start the next round.
I reduced the hook to a 4 mm / F/6 crochet hook, but intentionally so the stitches are tighter and showcase the stitch definition really well.

Love this pattern easy to follow and once you have the rhythm down the blanket flows! Great way to use verigated yarn with solid colours just makes it pop! Love it!!
This pattern is easy to follow and looks great in either a solid color or multicolor. The hdc join at the end of the rounds is genius! It's one of my go-to patterns for baby blankets.
This is on my hook right now, using scrap yarn…
