The crochet modern granny stitch has been updated with a change in the connection of the end of the rounds to prevent ruining the colouring carried over. This is a rectangle shape baby blanket.
Since 2017, yarn colouring has evolved to be more transitional, with attention to the subtle nature of colouring. Red Heart Super Saver Bitty Stripes, in the colour Rainbow Mist, showcases this stitch really well, but so does Caron Colorama Halo, too.
TIPS
The change is to start the round at a different position and finish the rounds with a (Ch 1 and half double crochet join) to the top of the first stitch. The Ch 1 + hdc is the equivalent of a ch-3 sp. The half-double crochet leaves the crocheter in the right position to start the next round.
I reduced the hook to a 4 mm / G/6 crochet hook but intentionally so the stitches are tighter and showcase the stitch definition really well.
